Write out into 2 different text type/forms from the nursery rhyme :
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.
Up got Jack, and home did trot
As fast as he could caper
He went to bed and bound his head
With vinegar and brown paper.
Recount:
That day, just five days ago, was the very fateful day Jack and I fell down the hill. On that unfortunate morning, it so happened to be that our water supply was cut off. Jack and I went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. As it was very boring, we decided to play a game of 'tag'. As we were playing, cheerfully, Jack did not see the huge rock jutting out from the ground. He tripped over the rock and tumbled down the hill. Unfortunately, I fell along with him too!
We fell down the rocky hill till we slammed on the bottom. We had injuries, abrasions and cuts all over. But Jack's injuries were much more serious than mine. He had a deep gash on his head! I called for our parents, and they brought him home immediately. They wrapped his head with brown paper soaked in vinegar to stop the bleeding and kill any germs.
Narrative:
I could barely see anything as the brown paper wrapped over my head.; yet all I could see was total darkness. I mumbled" Am I going to be okay?". I remembered the water supply being cut off. Jill and I then went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. As mischievous as we were, we started to play a game of tag. Little did we know the dire consequences it bore. Just when I was running from Jill, I tripped over a big rock at the top of the hill, and before I could attain control of my body, imbalance got the better of me.
I just couldn't stop myself from tumbling and rolling down. I felt my face flush in embarrassment, and significantly, blood as well. When I got to the bottom, I looked at Jill. She seemed very worried and tears started to well up in my eyes uncontrollably. " Are you okay brother!" Jill wept, as she went to get our parents. And before I knew it, my parents brought me home, and wrapped my head with brown paper soaked in vinegar.
" I'm sorry Jill" I mumbled. I have learnt to think twice before acting; lest the consequences haunt forever.

In blog writing prompt #5
Pick a news story that you've read this week or last week , and comment on the issue covered in it. How effectively was the story reported. Did it not cover any information you'd hoped it would.
From Newsweek by Christopher Dickey and John Barry.
I think that this article states the tension and pressure Obama receives during times like these-- the issues with Japan, Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan. I think, it is a normality for individuals like him, to feel exhausted. Even the world's best president is still a human being. Pressure and stress comes naturally. The article states that Obama's judgement is clouded and he has difficulty coping amid all the war, pileup, disasters, crisis, and wars. The description of Obama 'drinking from the fire hose' states the degree of his urgency, and exhaustion. As he is limiting his endurance, the article tries to sympathise with Obama, by comparing other presidents getting stressed up too.
I think that the story was very well written as it conveys a particular message that is to change the psychological mindset of accusing Obama for not handling all these issues properly. Through this article, as I read it word by word, I sympathise with all the stress and pressure Obama , alone, has to undergo or endure. The story was very effective with the cited evidences of different political leaders speeches from Eisenhower or Nichols. The article begs for the public's desire for romantic brilliance and quiet competence.
I think the article should include speeches of Obama himself so as to gain more symapthy and feel for him. Amid all the war, and clashes, and catastrophes, can one human being singularly clear a shroud of tension and exhaustion, then stepping back up with judgement and authority? Even the world's best president would find trouble with that.
Letter to the Editor 15 minute writing prompt #4
Write a short letter to the editor of the Straits Times, commenting on what Singaporeans can learn from the recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami, and whether we as a nation possess what it takes to handle a similar crisis.
Dear Sir,
Upon the shocking news on the recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami, I am writing a letter to comment on how Singaporeans can learn from these natural catastrophes, and whether we, as a nation, possess what it takes to handle a similar situation.
The recent Japanese earthquake, followed by a disastrous tsunami, claimed many lives within an instant, and shocked the world on 11th March 2011. Is this retribution for the World War II? Some may claim it was an act of God, whilst some expect much more of these to come in other countries, in California for example. Ultimately, these frenzied disasters have told the world what they could learn from it. As such, I would like to share some of my point of views on what Singapore can learn from such.
Nothing can beat the order, and obedience, respect of the Japanese. They are very well- brought up, and very cultured. During an emergency; in this prospect, the earthquake, the Japanese stricken by it, maintained high order and discipline in evacuating. When there is a traffic light, the whole bunch of Japanese people would stop and wait for the green light- unlike those in other countries like Thailand whereby traffic congestion is not uncommon, and accidents are abound.
I think Singapore can learn from the Japanese; their high order and discipline during an emergency, to be calm and composed. Singaporeans should also be thankful for Singapore, where it is very safe, and the environment is well taken care of. We as a nation, do not possess what it takes to handle such a crisis. We Singaporeans take everything for granted and live life as if everything or everyone owes us a living. No risk is dared to be encountered. Instead, everyone cowers in fear to blend in with normality and live as normal- hoping nothing disastrous hits them. It is obvious that we do not possess what it takes; we are too spoilt -naturally- and cannot tackle such a situation. It is therefore of inordinate importance for us, as a nation, to start respecting things and not taking everything for granted.

Literature. #3 15 minute writing blog
What does literature mean to you?
In my opinion, literature is a very ready platform, to express and convey certain messages, or emotions-- specifically written literature. Literature on its own can singularly affect our feelings, and deepen our knowledge, or evoke the senses. Examples? Well, reading a novel on racial prejudice will definitely evoke fury and remind the readers of the dark and looming past in the South. Written literature possesses many literary devices, such as personification, or similes, or metaphors. Such colourful arrays of portrayal brings out the emotions of the author at that point of time. So, I think that everyone's way of illustrating their own literature is unique in its own way, and longs for others to improvise on it, or learn from it. Literature, is therefore a clear platform to enhance chances for those potential souls to shine.
Explain its significance in life.
Literature in life is used widely to express one's emotions during celebration, or sorrow. For example, when we are down and feeling sorrow and morose, if we write a written literature piece, it would definitely turn out forlorn and melancholic, and have a negative ending. But it is good, as it allows us to express our sorrow and not bottle up our feelings. Whereby if we write a literature piece when we are happy or exuberant, it is obvious that the piece would possess many cheerful phrases and our happiness would be celebrated furthermore. Literature is a platform to express one's emotions in life, and hence affecting our feelings. In life, we have ups and downs, and literature complements it; in literature, many ways of conveying our emotions and evoking feelings are clear. It is a utopian ideology to think our life has no downs, and very perfect. To fill this imperfection, literature comes in. Literature relieves stress, allows a platform for expression of feelings, and a very essential way of conveying loud messages, or satires, or sarcasm in politics or social life.

Racism 10 minute writing. #2
Are the efforts to combat racism enough?
In my opinion, I think, globally, the efforts to combat racism is relatively sufficient, but still lacking a little. We all know a lot has been undertaken to simmer, shrink the Ku Klux Klan in 1800s, in the United States; albeit some still in hiding. A lot of effort and cooperation was required to shrink the very prejudicial KKK that of which ferocity reigned in the last few decades. Shrinking the Ku Klux Klan , is too large a scale to compare and conclude the efforts of combating racism. Most Americans then,as time gradually passed, got accustomed to the blacks, the ruling prejudice seemed to fade year by year. You could say it was a natural procession, but it could also be their own will power into yearning for peace, and less discrimination. Willpower , self-discipline are one's psychological weapons which fought off racism and prejudice then, and now.
How do you think racism can be dealt in Singapore?
The government could ensure that the Community Centres here, could bond the different races together. The government can continue to build more heritage centres of their races for the other races to understand, comprehend and admire. Cultural education should then be more widely spread to the children and t he generations to come. Public awareness also plays a huge role. Hence the government should set up posters , or advertisements to warn the citizens, therefore imply the severity of racism. The government should aggravate the punishment for racism and prejudicial treatment, so as to inflict fear and to curb and deal with any racism. But still, prevention of racism is better than curing or correcting it.

CIP on 21/3/11 Reflection
My Reflection:
I think that the CIP event on Founders Day, 21st of March, was a very enriching and fruitful event. It benefited everyone essentially; the elderly were more than satisfied ;we were very hard working, and mounted the 3M products dutifully . Most importantly, it was what I had learnt, or benefited, from this CIP.
Morally, I feel satisfied, and accomplished, aiding a little in helping the helpless and needy. I felt I played a part to separate at least a little from their deplorable prospect that seemed to secure them to bondages of loneliness, or boredom. I mixed around with the elderly or underprivileged, making sure that they were always exuberant, by keeping them company. I chit chatted with them, and indeed, enlarged my friendship with them. Some of them had the drive, motivation and a goal to work towards after retirement, filling the voids that precedes old age . How? By serving the nearby community centres, or government centres, and maybe helping out the older neighbours who were partially immobile. My heart melted when I saw the old taking care of the old; gradually I realized it had an influential impact on me.
But most of all, what I really had experienced through this enriching CIP, is that it makes me happy, and satisfied to see them happy; a smile on their faces would singularly lift my moods. Helping them from the bottom of my heart brings out a warm, soothing comfort, and to bade farewell after a bare 3 hours of interaction just adds in more reluctance, I inevitably felt melancholic during the bus ride back. Never had I thought that the elderly could be friends with us teenagers, over a short span of time. CIP does help the community, or society, but the main point behind the CIP is for us to interact with the society, and expand our friendships.CIP would always be deemed as boring or meaningless before, but after the event, one would ponder back on his thoughts and think otherwise. I felt that this CIP was very successful, as our manpower was huge, accomplishing the required work swiftly. Helping others, and to see just a smile on their faces alone, makes me more than happy.
